REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman highlighted the leakage of refined sugar into the consumer market. He assessed that this condition is one of the causes of difficulty in absorbing farmers' sugar, putting pressure on prices at the farmer level, and worsening the national sugar trade. Amran said that the issue of national sugar supply is not only based on production, but also on the weak control of distribution. Amid the still-high national demand for sugar, domestic sugar actually faces absorption barriers in the market. "We found that there is a leakage of refined sugar entering the market as consumer sugar.
