The Huyro Agricultural Cooperative in Cusco, Peru, has received funding from the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation's Compensation Program for Competitiveness (Agroideas) to upgrade their tea leaf processing facilities, allowing them to export to the United States. The total investment for the project was 947,000 soles, with Midagri contributing 662,000 soles and the cooperative providing the remaining 284,000 soles. The cooperation has invested in equipment such as a withering area, rolling machine, dryer, and packaging machine, enabling the members to increase their income and transition from supplying raw materials to producing finished products. The cooperative, which currently sells tea, cinnamon, cloves, and black tea in Cusco, Arequipa, and Puno, is near organic certification and is preparing to export over 20 tons of tea to the United States. Midagri has approved 46 business plans to adopt technology, associativity, and business management, investing 13.5 million soles to benefit over 2,000 small farmers in Cusco.
