Russia May Reach Soviet-Era Milk Consumption Levels in Next Decade In 2024, milk consumption per capita in Russia reached 250 kg — the highest figure in almost 30 years. Yakub Zakriev, CEO of Health & Nutrition (formerly Danone Russia), reported this to TASS. "Currently, the global average milk consumption is around 116-118 kg per capita per year. Thus, consumption levels in the Russian Federation exceed this figure by more than two times," Zakriev said. "If we maintain the current consumption growth rate of 3-5% annually, we can return to Soviet-era levels in 8 to 14 years," the expert added. He recalled that in the late 1980s, per capita consumption of milk and dairy products in the USSR was around 390 kg per year. Zakriev noted that further consumption growth will rely on a balanced pricing policy, expanding product range, and state support measures for agricultural production businesses.
