Moldova's apple harvest is projected to reach approximately 450 thousand tons in 2024, marking a 14% decrease from the previous year, as per the Moldova Fruct Association. The reduction in production is attributed to factors such as drought, deforestation, adverse weather conditions, and limited irrigation. Despite the decrease, export volumes are expected to remain stable at last year's levels. Moldova joins the European Union (EU) in experiencing a decline in apple production, with the EU's production forecasted to decrease by 11.32% from last year and 13.58% from the average of the past three years. Moldovan producers have seen an increase in exports, with over 133 thousand tons sold to more than 30 countries for the 2023-2024 season, including a significant increase in exports to the EU, especially to Romania.
