More citrus in the Southern Hemisphere in 2022

In the 2022 campaign in the Southern Hemisphere, the preliminary forecast of the World Citrus Organization (WCO) points to a total production of 24,832,270 tons of citrus, which represents an increase of 4.85% in volume compared to the 2021 harvest. Compared to last year, the WCO indicates an increase in orange production (by 5.01%, to reach a total of 16.5 million tons) and lemon/lime production (8.28%, to 4.7 million tonnes), but a very slight decline in mandarin/clementine (-0.11% to 3.0 million tonnes) and grapefruit (-0.58% to 436,386 tonnes). According to forecasts – which gather data provided by sectoral entities from South Africa, Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Uruguay and which were presented on June 1, during the second Annual Meeting General of the WCO, an entity created in 2020 -, an increase of 4.91% in citrus exports from the Southern Hemisphere is expected, to 4,140,547 tons.
