Moroccan asparagus export is increasing in volume and destinations

Morocco has more than doubled its asparagus exports in the past five years, EastFruit reports. For three years in a row, Morocco only shipped asparagus to Spain, but since 2021/22, Moroccan exporters have expanded their destination markets. Asparagus is of course not one of the most important export categories for Morocco like tomato or bell pepper are. Worldwide, Morocco ranks only 19th in the list of asparagus exporters. However, asparagus is a special crop for this North African country and its export is developing. In 2022/23, Moroccan exporters sold about 500 tons worth more than $1 million. Three European countries (Germany, Spain and the Netherlands) are among the top five importers of asparagus in the world. Morocco mainly focuses on Spain, to which three-quarters of Moroccan export asparagus went in 2022/23.
