Mozambique's Minister of Agriculture, Celso Correia, has promised sufficient chicken supply for the festive season, despite the Covid-19 pandemic. He made this promise during the inauguration of the 'Mafavuka' poultry farm in Namaacha district, which has an annual production capacity of 6,000 tonnes. The farm, built at a cost of $10 million, is equipped with advanced technology and has the capacity to house 56,000 chickens per production cycle. The government is also taking measures to combat chicken smuggling, which has previously harmed domestic production. The inauguration of the poultry farm comes after a 16.5% growth in chicken production in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2020.
