The province of Niassa in Mozambique is set to become the largest macadamia producer in the country through the 'Niassa Macadamia' project. The project, which is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, aims to expand the cultivation area from 1100 hectares to 10,000 hectares, employing around 1200 small farmers. The company is in the process of raising capital for its expansion and plans to build the first macadamia processing factory in Mozambique. The macadamia fruit is chosen due to the province's suitable soils and climates for its development in dryland agriculture. The production is expected to reach approximately 20,000 tonnes a year from 2035, potentially placing Mozambique in the top 3 of the best African macadamia producing countries.
