A agricultural research institute has developed high protein, high value, and high yield chickpea and barley varieties, named 'Tolga', 'Nuribey', 'İsmetbey', 'Sürpriz', and 'Şaheste'. These seeds will be registered and offered to farmers, increasing the registered chickpea and barley varieties to 9 and 6 respectively. The institute has developed nearly 100 seed varieties, primarily wheat, and is working to increase farmers' welfare and provide varieties that meet modern taste, flavor, and quality demands. The new chickpea varieties are coarse-grained, preferred by Turkish society, and barley, a drought-resistant crop, is becoming more important with the changing climate.
