The Nicaraguan government has announced plans to purchase a new batch of buses and wheat from Russia, following the renewal of a cooperation agreement between the two countries. The government will finance and ship 300 buses to Nicaragua, and is also in the process of purchasing 120,000 to 130,000 tons of Russian wheat as part of an annual agreement. Since 2007, Nicaragua has bought 1,100 Russian buses. The country's president, Daniel Ortega, is an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Nicaragua has recognized the independence of the breakaway Georgian regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, earning rejection from Ukraine.
