Organic milk in Veneto comes mostly from cattle farms (80%) and to a lesser extent from goats and sheep, milk that is produced by 5,000 cattle (2% of the regional herd) and 2,000 goats and sheep. Worldwide, organic milk is an ever-expanding production sector, which went from a marketed value of around 20 billion dollars at the beginning of the 2000s to over 110 billion in 2019. The main outlet markets are North America (43 , 9% of consumption) and the European Union (39.5%).
