Ukraine is the leading supplier of corn to the European Union among Eastern European countries, accounting for 57% of the total supply. The volume of corn imports into the EU has outpaced projections from the last five agricultural seasons. However, Ukraine faces increased competition from the United States, particularly in markets like Spain and Portugal. The loss of the Chinese market has also been offset by double the corn exports to Turkey. There is a trend of reducing the cultivation area for corn in regions around the Danube River and the Black Sea, with Romania and Bulgaria sowing less corn due to its perceived risky nature. In contrast, Ukraine expects an increase in its corn harvest.
