In 2022, Morocco emerged as a leading exporter of fresh blueberries, ranking fourth globally with an export volume of 53,000 tons, surpassing the United States. This marks a significant increase from the country's humble beginnings when it ranked seventh in 2017 with exports of 15,600 tons. The European Union, the United Kingdom, and Norway are the primary recipients of Moroccan blueberry exports, which have seen a notable decline in delivery to Spain. Morocco has also diversified its export markets, witnessing a 9.5-fold increase in exports to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. However, the invasion of Ukraine and subsequent economic sanctions by Russia have resulted in a significant decrease in imports of Moroccan blueberries to that country. Additionally, Morocco has made inroads into the North American market, with shipments to Canada and the United States. This growth in Moroccan blueberry exports highlights its rising global popularity and the country's successful strategy in blueberry cultivation.
