In September 2024, Peru saw a significant increase in its cocoa bean exports, with a 16% rise in volume exported year-on-year reaching 10,889 tons, and a 125% increase in export value, generating $70 million. This growth is primarily attributed to a 95% increase in the average price of cocoa beans, which rose from $3.30 to $6.43 per kilogram. Malaysia was the top buyer, receiving 32% of the total exports, followed by the Netherlands with 22%. Mexico's purchases made up 8% of the total, despite a 40% drop in volume. DP World and APM Terminals led the shipments, with Cafetalera Amazónica S.A.C., Agro San Gerardo E.I.R.L., and Sumaqao S.A.C. being the leading exporting companies.
