(Agraria.pe) Between January and August of 2025, Peru's exports of quinoa totaled 35,981 tons worth US$ 95 million. While the volume exported remained virtually the same as the same period of the previous year, the value increased by 7%, driven by an improvement in the average price, which reached US$ 2.64 per kilogram, also a 7% increase. In terms of area, Peru has around 70 thousand hectares dedicated to this crop, although the figure has shown variations in recent years. The production involves approximately 125 thousand farming families, mainly in high-poverty regions such as Puno, Ayacucho, and Apurímac, which gives it a relevant social impact. The State has supported the development of the sector through programs such as AgroIdeas and ProCompite, in addition to the Law of Agricultural and Livestock Productive Reconversion, which incentivized cultivation on the coast as an alternative to water-intensive products, such as rice.
