In January, Peruvian pomegranate exports experienced a remarkable surge, totaling US$ 6 million 681 thousand, marking a 448% increase from the same period in 2023. This growth is primarily in fresh and frozen pomegranate exports, with the Netherlands, Brazil, and the United States being the main recipients. The surge in exports is attributed to the rising global demand for pomegranates, recognized for their health benefits as a superfood. The bulk of pomegranate production is in Ica, although regions like Tacna are also emerging as significant producers. This export boost is evident in both the volume of fresh pomegranates, which rose by 411%, and frozen pomegranates, which increased by 295%.
