Peru has been the leading global exporter of blueberries for the fourth year in a row, with exports reaching $1.36 billion in 2022 and marking a 172% increase in export volumes from 2020 to 2021. The country has surpassed the United States and other competitors like Spain, Canada, and Morocco in blueberry exports. This success is attributed to an increase in the number of regions for fresh berry production and the expansion of blueberry plantation areas. Peru grows over 65 varieties of blueberries, with the Ventura and Biloxi varieties being the most dominant. The United States continues to be the primary importer of Peruvian blueberries, accounting for 51% of the total exports, followed by the Netherlands. The growth in blueberry exports is projected to persist, as indicated by sales trends in January 2023.
