The latest data from the European Commission showed that the slaughter of pigs in the 27 member states of the European Union (EU) maintained an upward trend in the first half of 2025. As of July 1, 111.89 million animals were processed, compared to 110.13 million in the same period in 2024. However, compared to 10 years ago, the slaughter in 2025 is 7.7% lower. Spain and Germany concentrate production Spain, consolidating its leadership in the European pork sector, topped the list by reporting 28 million pigs slaughtered. Germany came in second, with more than 22 million, although its production has significantly decreased over the last decade, considering that in 2015 it exceeded 29 million animals processed for the same period.
