Costa Rica's pineapple exports have rebounded, reaching pre-pandemic levels in the first four months of 2021, with a 9% increase in revenue compared to the same period in 2020. This recovery is due to the opening of hotels, restaurants, and educational centers, leading to increased demand. The sector expects a 4-5% increase in income in 2021, as it is the second most important agricultural sector in Costa Rica, following bananas. Despite weather conditions and a drop in tourism due to the pandemic, the prices and demand for pineapples in the European Union and the United States have remained stable since the last quarter of 2020. The pineapple sector is optimistic about growth in production, demand, and stable prices curb in 2022. Additionally, Costa Rica is awaiting authorization to export pineapples to Israel, known for its good prices for producers.
