Spain's Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has announced that the country will seek aid for its beekeeping sector and support a crisis distillation for the wine sector at the upcoming European Commission meeting. The minister will also draw attention to the challenges faced by the sugar beet sector. The large import of honey from third countries, such as China and Ukraine, has contributed to the difficulties of the beekeeping sector. The minister will also push for the indication of the country of origin and percentage on honey labels. The wine sector is considering crisis distillation to reduce surpluses, a measure Spain may support. The sugar beet sector is dealing with restrictions due to a recent EU court ruling and weather conditions, leading to lower yields and higher sugar prices. Additionally, Spain plans to address the need for the European Commission to take action regarding US tariffs on Spanish table olives at the meeting.
