The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality in Turkey has launched a campaign to popularize the consumption of lionfish, an invasive species that has made its way from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean due to global warming. The campaign, which includes adding lionfish to the menu of a local restaurant, aims to provide economic value to the species and reduce its impact on the ecosystem. The restaurant will serve the lionfish, which is poisonous only in its fins, with a special cleaning procedure to ensure safety. The municipality will also host a Lion Fish Hunting Competition and Tasting Festival on July 11 to further promote the consumption of the species.
