A labor dispute at the Port of Tarragona, caused by the liberalization of port stowage, has led to a significant reduction in the unloading rate of raw materials, including corn and soybean meal, which are essential for the manufacture of feed in Catalonia and Aragon. This has resulted in a cost of 7 million euros for the system and has led to the diversion of over half a million tons of merchandise to other ports. The situation threatens to cause shortages in Catalonia and Aragon, with concerns about the potential breakage of stocks in soybean and corn flour, and possible animal welfare issues. The Spanish Confederation of Manufacturers of Compound Food for Animals (CESFAC) is calling for a quick solution to the labor conflict to ensure the supply of the food chain.
