Potential of production and export of wild plants was assessed in Russia

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, in the future, the Russian Federation may receive up to 20% of the global market for organic wild plants, since the country has about a fifth of the area of all the world's forests, reports KazakhZerno.kz. Such natural resources potentially guarantee the possibility of harvesting industrial volumes of wild berries, nuts, fruits, mushrooms, birch sap and other organic products. According to scientists, the natural reserves of only the most common of these wild plants exceed 13 million tons.
Potentially, more than 7 million tons of them can be procured and sold or processed for the production of organic products. The snag is the extremely low level of proper utilization of "forest gifts". A lot of raw materials are harvested, however, due to the low quality of its processing, no more than a third is suitable for commercial production. According to experts, taking into account food and medicinal plants in the future ten years, the volume of suitable forest raw materials may amount to 2-2.5 million tons. Last year, the Russian Federation supplied to foreign markets 24 thousand tons of wild plants in the amount of 69 million dollars.In the first 8 months of 2021, the volume of exports reached 9 thousand tons, which brought the budget 39 million dollars.
