The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages in Peru have increased by 6.29% so far this year, according to a report from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics. Despite the decrease in the international price of wheat due to an agreement between Russia and Ukraine, the prices of products made with wheat, such as bread, have not dropped significantly. This is because other inputs required for bread preparation, such as oil, have not decreased and companies may choose not to lower prices even if global prices decrease. Additionally, the impact of the global El Niño Phenomenon on agricultural production could lead to further increases in food prices and inflation.
