South Korea initiative of the ‘Resource Circulation Framework Act Amendment’ that recognizes rice hull and rice bran circulating resources

On the 17th, Lee Won-taek, a member of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock Food, Marine and Fisheries Committee, and a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Gimje and Buan, Jeollabuk-do), proposed the amendment to the Framework Act on Resource Circulation, which recognizes rice husks and rice bran as recyclable resources. The Resource Circulation Act aims to create a sustainable resource circulation society by minimizing waste generation and promoting the recycling of waste. However, rice husks and rice bran, which are by-products generated in the grain milling process, are classified as wastes under the ‘Waste Management Act’ even though they are recycled as livestock rugs or compost.
