The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture is taking steps to address the financial challenges caused by the import of cheap cereals from Ukraine. The ministry is expecting a positive decision from the European Commission on a application to protect Romanian farmers. The government has allocated EUR 10 million from EU funds and an additional EUR 10 million from the national budget to Romanian farmers. The ministry has also informed Ukraine of its plans to control the transit of grain from Ukraine by sealing cargoes and monitoring their movement within Romania. The detailed measures to protect Romanian farmers will be presented after a meeting scheduled for Friday in Bucharest.
