In 2020, global agricultural exports reached a record of 1.61 trillion dollars, showing a slight increase of 1.1% from the previous year, despite a decrease in the total volume of global trade. Russia emerged as one of the leading exporters, climbing from the 19th to the 17th position with a 19% increase in exports valued at 30.5 billion dollars, including a 28% rise in grain exports and a 21% increase in fat and oil products. The top ten exporting countries, which account for nearly 50% of global food exports, experienced positive growth, led by the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, and China. Meat and meat by-products were the leading category of exports, followed by fruits and nuts. The growth in agricultural exports is attributed to the resilience of the sector during the Covid-19 pandemic, Quarantine restrictions and supply chain disruptions affected the food industry to a lesser extent, and in some cases, countries made rush purchases of basic food products to build stocks.
