In 2022, China was the primary market for Russia's fish products, with exports totaling 2.3 million tons valued at $6.1 billion. The exports included a variety of fish species from the Far Eastern and Northern basins, as well as carps and non-food meal from aquatic biological resources. The face-to-face negotiations between Russia and China in March 2023 marked the first since the pandemic, focusing on cooperation in the fishing industry, protection and reproduction of aquatic resources, and scientific research of sturgeon and salmon. The introduction of electronic certification to confirm the legality of catches is expected to streamline the process of importing Russian fish products to China, strengthening the long-standing cooperation between the two nations in preventing illegal fishing.
