Rwandan farmers in Nyabihu District are significantly reducing harvest losses of carrots, previously at around 30%, by using a Zero Energy Cooling Chamber. This simple on-farm storage solution, supported by the Hinga Weze project, employs basic thermodynamics to maintain low temperatures and extend shelf life. The chamber can store 300 crates of carrots, helping farmers to avoid selling at giveaway prices due to lack of storage and to preserve produce for longer periods.
