Sakhalin, a region leading in Pacific salmon reproduction, has seen a decrease in wild fish approaches, making hatchery reproduction crucial. Operating 58 hatcheries, the region has seen increasing chum salmon returns in the last two years. The Kanif enterprise, a key project under the Strategy for the Development of the Fisheries Industry until 2030, produces up to 25 million chum salmon units annually. The plan aims for at least 20 new hatcheries by 2030, with a capacity to produce at least 1.6 billion juvenile chum salmon fry, contributing at least 100 thousand tons of merchandise withdrawal annually.
