Scientists in Russia have obtained embryos of Yakut cattle for the first time.

Scientists from the Federal Research Center for Animal Husbandry – VIZ named after Academician L. K. Ernst have, for the first time in domestic practice, obtained and deposited in a cryobank for guaranteed long-term storage embryos of the unique northern breed of cows – Yakut cattle. This was reported to TASS by the press service of the institute. "This achievement is of strategic importance for strengthening food security and ensuring the sustainable development of agriculture in Russia. Yakut cattle, whose population is critically small and geographically isolated today, are carriers of invaluable genes that ensure survival in the extreme conditions of the Arctic, phenomenal resistance to diseases, and special nutritional qualities of the products. The loss of this breed would be an irreplaceable loss for the country's biodiversity," the message states.
