South Korea: Sea urchin production plummeted due to high temperature

It was found that the production of sea squirt plummeted due to the prolonged high temperature in summer. According to the Fisheries Observation Center of the Korea Maritime and Fisheries Development Institute, the production of sea squirts in August was 575 tons, down 48.2% and 74.8%, respectively, compared to the same month last year and the average year. By region, production in Gangwon-do was 561 tons, 39.2% less than the same month last year, and Gyeongbuk was 14 tons, down 92.6%. The reason for the sharp drop in production in the Gyeongbuk region is that mass deaths occurred in Yeongdeok and Uljin due to high water temperatures and typhoons.
