In April 2024, China imported 79,641 tons of seafood, marking a 4% increase from the previous year, with an total value of $285.43 million, a 3% increase from the previous year. The average import unit price was $3.58/kg, a 1% decrease from the previous year. The main imports included 17,020 tons of frozen monkfish, 7,367 tons of live shellfish, and 5,988 tons of frozen squid. Imported live clam was the fourth largest import. Import volumes and prices of some products like monkfish and live shellfish increased, while the volume of frozen squid imports decreased but its price increased compared to the previous year. From January to April 2024, Chinese seafood imports made up 25% of the country's total seafood imports, positioning China as the second-largest seafood exporter after Russia.
