According to local media, the culprit would be the rapid expansion of domestic production that has flooded the market. The China Daily website reported that since March, prices have been reduced by almost half compared to the levels recorded during the Spring Festival celebrations. "In many supermarkets, a 250-gram container that used to sell for around 30 yuan (US$4.1) now costs about 20 yuan, while wholesale prices have dropped from about 150 yuan per box to approximately 80 yuan," the media outlet reported.
