South Africa's table grape exports in 2023/24 have seen a significant increase of approximately 16%, reaching 74.1 million boxes with an estimated export revenue of between 12 and 13 billion rand. This marks an all-time high for the country's grape exports, but the efficiency issues at Cape Town Port have caused substantial losses for exporters, with each box costing about 20 rand more due to these inefficiencies. Despite these challenges, the South African Table Grape Industry Association (SATI) anticipates these equipment issues at the Cape Town Container Terminal to persist for the next two years, with Transnet planning to acquire and install new equipment to address the ongoing inefficiencies.
