South Korea's agricultural exports experienced a 7.7% growth in 2020, reaching an all-time high of USD 7.5 billion despite the pandemic, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. This growth was led by increases in ginseng, kimchi, instant noodle sales, and processed rice products. Notably, kimchi exports surged by 37.6% to USD 144.5 million, and instant noodle sales grew by 29.3% to USD 603 million. However, exports of paprika and tomatoes saw a decrease by 5.5% and 10.1% respectively. Looking ahead, the ministry aims to further expand exports, targeting new markets such as Australia and South America in 2021.
