Frozen mackerel accounts for 9.48% of South Korea's seafood import volume, becoming the second-largest category after frozen Alaska pollock.
In May, Norway supplied 26,148 tons of frozen mackerel to South Korea, accounting for 82% of total imports and ranking first, followed by China with 2,943 tons, and the Netherlands and the United Kingdom with 1,051 tons and 1,034 tons, respectively.
The average selling price of Norwegian mackerel is $2.78 per kilogram, Chinese mackerel is priced at $1.87, and Dutch mackerel is $2.68 per kilogram.
In the first five months of this year, South Korea's frozen mackerel import value reached $9.848 million, a year-on-year increase of 75%, with May's monthly import value at $1,309, representing a 449% increase.
