Spain is the undisputed world leader in organic lemon and grapefruit cultivation area

The area of organic lemon grown in Spain under the guarantee of the European model reached 11,509 hectares in 2022, increasing by 574% in 10 years compared to 2012 data. As for organic grapefruit, its area has grown by 418% since 2012, currently reaching 685 hectares, which represents 22% of the total lemon area and 21% of the grapefruit area. Spanish producers champion organic farming not only in the European Union, but Spain becomes the world leader in organically cultivated area, ahead of Italy, Argentina, South Africa or the United States.
