The price of sugar in Ukraine is 10-20% higher than in many European countries due to a production shortage, according to Svetlana Lytvyn, an analyst with the Ukrainian Agricultural Business Club Association. The shortage is due to a 34% reduction in production caused by poor yield and low sugar content of sugar beet. Additionally, the taxation system in Ukraine contributes to higher sugar prices, with a 20% VAT compared to 5% in countries like Poland.
