Khadka Bahadur Khatri, a farmer from Surkhet, has become a seed producer, generating income for his family through the production of okra and paddy seeds. The Pabitra Jankalyan Farmers' Cooperative Organization, with support from the Center for Environmental and Agricultural Policy Research, Extension and Development (CIPRED), has established a seed production program, facilitating farmers like Khatri. The cooperative has expanded seed production to include various crops, which are marketed in 39 districts of Nepal, generating over Rs 30 million in the previous fiscal year. The Directorate of Agriculture Development in Surkhet has declared the area a seed production block, emphasizing organic production and promoting agriculture.
