In South Korea, sweet potatoes are the second highest agricultural product after rice and generate the highest farm household income. The Rural Development Administration is planning to improve the sweet potato supply system due to a rise in demand for domestic varieties and a lack of new varieties. Plans include establishing a production base and distribution system for domestically produced seed sweet potatoes and creating a Sweet Potato Research Center in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, with a budget of 4.3 billion won.
