TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwanese delegation signed a letter of intent with Indiana on Friday to purchase soybeans and corn.
The signing took place at the Indiana Statehouse with Deputy Agriculture Minister Tu Wen-chen (杜文珍) and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago Director General Lei Yen-feng (類延峰) in attendance, per CNA.
Tu explained that Taiwan has sent agriculture delegations since 1998, but this year’s mission is the largest yet. He said bigger orders reflect Taiwan’s growing demand for US products.
Indiana Governor Mike Braun called the agreement a win-win for both sides. He highlighted the strong trade relationship between Taiwan and Indiana, noting that the US Department of Agriculture will open a hub in the state.
Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith noted the sister-state relationship. He said closer ties with Taiwan support US farmers and enhance national security.
