In Ukraine, the winter of 2023/24 saw a notable shift in consumer fruit preferences, with tangerines overtaking bananas as the second most popular winter fruit, following apples which remained at the top despite a slight decrease in consumption due to competition from citrus fruits. Tangerine consumption in December 2023 even doubled that of bananas, highlighting their growing popularity. The majority of tangerines are imported from Turkey, accounting for 85% of Ukraine's imports of the fruit, while bananas, now third in preference, mainly come from Ecuador. Other fruits like oranges, clementines, lemons, persimmons, pomegranates, kiwis, avocados, and table grapes are also primarily imported, indicating Ukraine's reliance on international sources for its winter fruit supply, with Türkiye and Egypt being significant suppliers for oranges.
