The Tanzania Meat Board (TMB) has attributed the decrease in poultry prices to an increase in supply caused by a large number of poultry farmers targeting the year-end festive season. The board has confirmed that there is no imported chicken meat in the market and found that prices ranged from 5,800/- to 8,000/- per bird. The TMB is advocating for investment in modern abattoirs and cold rooms to prevent farmers from selling at low prices due to a lack of storage. The board's inspection also found that the chicken industry is on track to meet its production targets set in the 2017/18-2021/22 Chicken Development Roadmap, with significant increases in chicken and egg production.
