From June 16th to 20th, a team conducted the third national census of livestock and poultry genetic resources in Hainan, China. They collected tissue and blood samples from Wenchang pigs and Xinglong buffalo in Qionghai and Wanning cities. Wenchang pig samples were collected for accurate identification and breeding, with a total of 52 pigs sampled. Xinglong buffalo samples were collected to evaluate and improve the breed, with adult bulls and cows selected for the sampling. The team included experts from the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Quality and Resources Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, and Hainan University.
