So far in 2022, pitahaya shipments totaled just 3.5 tons for US$15,000, while golden gooseberries reached 46 tons for US$326,000. Although both products have been growing each year, their destination is basically Europe due to the complications of access to the United States. However, the possibility of opening the main commercial destination seems close. In recent days, SENASA's general director of plant health, Josué Carrasco, has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with its US counterpart, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), so that both products have the benefit of exemption of the mandatory quarantine treatment from the third quarter of next year, after demonstrating that these fruits do not transmit the fruit fly.
