The Canary Islands' Ministry of Agriculture has distributed 5.6 million euros in aid to traditional winter tomato producers for the 2022 season, with each beneficiary being 93 in number. This aid, part of the POSEI Community Program, includes per-hectare aid totaling 5.3 million euros and 302,000 euros for reconversion. The reconversion aid's maximum unit amount has been increased from 14,000 euros in 2022 to 24,000 euros in 2023. An additional 10% aid supplement will be paid to beneficiaries who have received aid for the installation of young farmers. The aim is to diversify the sector, improve subsidies, increase campaigns, and support producers, ultimately boosting the sector's competitiveness and producer income.
