The Russian Subcommittee on Customs, Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation, Protective Measures in Foreign Trade has implemented a ban on sugar exports, including cane, beet sugar, and pure sucrose in solid form, until August 31, 2024. This measure is designed to maintain adequate domestic sugar reserves by limiting the recent surge in sugar exports, which have tripled this season compared to the last. While the ban is in place, exceptions will be made for exports to EAEU countries under specific conditions and with the necessary permits. The decision is a response to the need to stabilize the domestic market amidst a projected increase in Russia's sugar production, thanks to a high sugar beet harvest, while also honoring commitments to EAEU partners.
