The Catalan regions of Baix Ebre and Montsià have suffered a 40% drop in citrus production due to the DANA storm, with some farms experiencing total damage to fruit quality. The Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia (FCAC) blames excess humidity for fruit rot and snail infestations, and notes that insurers may not cover the damages as the fruit is still technically harvestable. The FCAC is calling on the Ministry of Agriculture to include these areas in support measures, as the storm hit during the harvest of key citrus varieties. FCAC citrus cooperatives, which account for 36% of Catalonia's production, are set to meet with the Department of Agriculture to discuss potential support similar to other climate emergencies.
