European Parliament deputies in Brussels approved the European Commission's proposal to increase tariffs by 50% on a range of agricultural goods from Russia and Belarus, as well as to introduce tariffs on fertilizers. According to the decision, tariffs on some nitrogen fertilizers will increase gradually over three years - from the current 6.5% to about 100%, which will effectively halt their export to the EU. Additional fees of 40-45 euros per ton will apply during 2025-2026. By 2028, these tariffs will rise to 430 euros per ton. An additional 50% tariff has been imposed on certain categories of agricultural products. The new tariffs will affect products such as sugar, vinegar, flour, and animal feed.
